Proposed Change #1.

Current:

V. Selection of leadership positions
A. National Positions
In its first meeting of the calendar year before a National Congress, the Nominating Committee will set the timeline and oversee the process for selecting the next Board, within the following guidelines:
1. Qualification for Board Membership
a. To serve on the Board a U.S. WILPF member must have been a member for at least twenty-four months.

1. Qualification for Board Membership
a. To serve on the Board a U.S. WILPF member must have been a member for at least twenty-four months, however, the twenty four month membership requirement may be shortened or waived by agreement of the Board

Policy regarding waiver:

In considering the recruitment and nomination of candidates for the Board, the Board may waive or shorten the 2 year WILPF membership requirement if:

  (A) A WILPF member of at least 2 year’s membership with appropriate skills has not been identified and  recruited after reasonable efforts; and

  (B) The candidate has demonstrated significant familiarity with WILPF, participation on an Issue or Board committee, endorses WILPF’s mission statement, and agrees to join WILPF prior to her election to the Board, if she is not already a member;  and

  (C) The candidate possesses skills and/or experience the Board needs.

Current:
D. Board Member Terms

1. Terms for ex-officio members of the board are determined by their position and/or the bodies they represent.

2. The Immediate Past President will serve on the Board for twelve months as an ex-officio member of the Board.

3. All other Board members may be elected or appointed to the National Board for not more than six consecutive years, except that the Board may appoint a National Board President to serve a third board term. A Board President who has served only one term in that office is, in all cases, eligible for a second term.

D. Board Member Terms

3. All other Board members may be elected or appointed to the National Board for not more than two full consecutive terms.  A Board President who has served only one term in that office is, in all cases, eligible for a second term either as President or another position.
