WILPF delivered this statement at the Expert Workshop on the role of the family and family-oriented approaches, policies and programmes in the promotion and protection of human rights and in sustainable development (28-29 May 2025), during the Session 1 on ‘Achieving the full enjoyment of human rights by family members, including achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls‘.
This statement highlights the need for gender equality within families of every form, particularly in conflict and crisis contexts where women’s diverse roles are often overlooked and their rights inadequately protected. The statement calls on States to implement inclusive, gender-responsive reforms—supporting unpaid care work, equitable access to decent livelihoods, and alternative and non-violent models of masculinity that value caregiving—while reversing the trend of diverting resources from social and humanitarian needs to military spending.
