If you watch the news, see what is happening around us, it is hard not to be disillusioned. Peace feels like it is being attacked, our civil rights are being infringed upon by oppressive structures and war continues to ravage and destroy communities. We see the horrors of Palestine being played out, to what is happening in Sudan and what never stopped happening in Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan and Iran and countless other places.
In this context, our work as a feminist peace building movement has never been more important than it is now. Anti Militarism and pacifism never seemed more important as values than they do today and we must not stop.
Since we started our movement has changed in shape and form and grown. We have gone from a league of hugely passionate feminist activists to a movement of over thousands of members across 40 countries. This is no small feat.
We will continue to work tirelessly to transform militaristic mindsets, prevent violence and replace systems of oppression with feminist peaceful alternatives.
As with everything we must change and adapt to new realities and continue to work to show how relevant peace is. We must embrace change and look towards the future of WILPF. WILPF is indeed in an exciting part of its journey as we seek new feminist leadership for peace and social change for our growing movement.
We are hugely optimistic that the changes to come will be positive for our movement towards building a world of permanent peace.
