This statement was made to the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), during the Interactive Dialogue on the High Commissioner’s report on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan (HRC res. S-31/1). Despite the amnesty announced by the Taliban, killings, enforced disappearances, house searches and other reprisals against former government and security sector officials, legal professionals, journalists and activists continue. Cases of disappearance and arbitrary detention of women activists remain of great concern.
