Statement delivered by Negina Yari during the Enhanced interactive dialogue on Afghanistan at the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC53).
Among other things, the statement recalls the impact of ban on female humanitarian workers on women’s access to humanitarian aid and health services; the systemic discrimination against women and girls that is normalising gender-based violence; the increase in child and forced marriage of girls and young women.
It calls on the international community to take decisive actions regarding women and girls’ critical human rights situation, which constitutes gender persecution and an institutionalised framework of gender apartheid. And it reminds that behind-the-scenes talks with the Taliban without the presence of Afghan women contribute to their gender persecution.
