This statement was made to the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), during the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan. The statement highlights that, while it may be less present in the media, the context of Afghanistan continues to be characterised by constant prohibitions and restrictions on the rights of women and girls. Among other recommendations, WILPF urged all States to take concrete actions to hold the Taliban accountable for these systematic gender-based violations and to condemn it for what it clearly is: gender apartheid.
