This statement, developed in collaboration with a network of Iranian women’s rights activists, was delivered during the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFM) at the UN Human Rights Council 58th session (24 February – 4 April 2025).
The statement acknowledges the critical work of the FFM in documenting grave human rights violations in Iran since the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising—many of which amount to crimes against humanity— and welcomes the Special Rapporteur’s emphasis on the gender-specific impacts of these violations.
It denounces the alarming surge in executions and death sentences, including those targeting women’s rights activists. It condemns the enactment of new laws that further institutionalise gender-based discrimination and violence, as well as the systematic impunity granted to perpetrators of violence. It highlights the urgent need for accountability and protection of families of victims from repression.
