This statement was made during the Enhanced interactive dialogue on the human rights situation in Afghanistan of the UN Human Rights Council, 59th session (16 June to 9 July 2025). This statement highlights the situation of women and girls with disabilities, who now face heightened, multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination and a protection crisis, characterised by economic exclusion, social isolation, and the systemic neglect of disability rights. These concerns are elaborated in a recent WILPF’s submission to the CEDAW Committee for the review of Afghanistan, which draws from the findings of a study carried out by a partner organisation.
