Joint submission to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) 66th pre-session (9-13 March 2020) on the review of DRC. This report wish to draw the Committee’s attention to the impact of the mining sector on the rights of local communities, particularly women and children, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This contribution addresses communities to pave the way for industrial mining, the management/allocation of revenues from the mining sector to the socio-economic and cultural development of local communities, and the conditions under which the mining sector operates in communities, as well as the working conditions of children and women in the artisanal mining sector. During the review of the DRC in 2009, the Committee expressed serious concerns about these issues and made recommendations to the State party in this regard.
