WILPF with the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) made a joint submission to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW Committee) for its review of France taking place at the 86th session (9 October – 27 October 2023). This joint submission brings to the CEDAW Committee’s attention concerns relating to the human rights impacts of France’s arms transfers to countries with poor human rights records. It also recalls that arms and surveillance technologies have gendered human rights impacts and contains recommendations to address transparency issues in arms export controls, as well as the responsibilities of arms and surveillance technologies companies.
