In times of escalating conflicts around the world, as international law is increasingly undermined, as Disarmament Working Group of WILPF we refuse the normalisation of militarism, including the continued existence and threat of nuclear weapons.
Regarding the upcoming NPT Review Conference, from 27 April to 22 May 2026, we urge states parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons to fulfil their legal and moral obligations – especially their commitment to complete nuclear disarmament.
As anti-militarist feminists from around the world, we continue to demonstrate that nuclear weapons do not bring security, but are instruments of structural violence that deepen global inequalities. Nuclear impacts are deeply gendered and racialised and must be considered in their intersectional consequences. They disproportionately harm Indigenous Peoples, women, and communities in the Global South through the environmental and health consequences of the entire nuclear production cycle, including resource extraction, nuclear test programmes, nuclear use, and waste.
We therefore call on all states to recognise nuclear disarmament as essential for social justice – including gender justice. The continued existence of nuclear weapons is incompatible with a world oriented towards peace and care for people and the planet.
