About: The Bonn Climate Change Conference, officially known as the UN Climate Change Conference (SB62), is a pivotal event in the global climate policy calendar. Held annually in Bonn, Germany, it serves as a preparatory meeting for the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference facilitates negotiations, workshops, and side events, bringing together governments, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to advance climate action.
Engagement opportunities:
- Networking and Coalition Building: Engaging with like-minded organisations and constituencies, such as the Women and Gender Constituency, can amplify advocacy efforts and foster collaborative initiatives.
- Advocacy and Policy Influence: Participating in negotiations and side events allows women’s organisations to advocate for the inclusion of gender-responsive and demilitarization-focused policies in climate agreements.
- Capacity Building: Attending workshops and sessions can enhance the capacity of women’s organisations to address the multifaceted impacts of climate change and militarism in their communities.
- Strategic Partnerships: Form alliances with diverse stakeholders, including youth, indigenous groups, and environmental organizations, to present a united front on issues of militarism and climate justice.
- Innovative Advocacy: Utilise digital platforms and social media to raise awareness and mobilise support for feminist climate justice initiatives
- Policy Engagement: Actively participate in policy dialogues and negotiations to ensure that the voices of women, especially from the Global South, are heard and considered in climate policy frameworks.
WILPF will be represented by two members from our WILPF section in Germany.
