Geneva Peace Week: Patriarchy, Gender and Peace
5 November , 2019 @ 12:00 pm1:15 pm
We all want to live in a world at peace. In a world with no war, no violence, with personal freedom to make decisions in life, and with social justice for all.
This is not the case of today.
We cannot solve our problems with the same methods that created them. Still the world – governments as well as organisations – keep falling into that trap, when they try to realise peace by seeing armament as a solution, thinking in patriarchal structures, and not daring – or wanting – to deal with gender norms.
It does not work. Patriarchy, militarism, and neoliberalism are three inter-related causes that push us all towards more conflict. If we want peace, then we need to change the mindset.
Moderated by WILPF’s Secretary-General Madeleine Rees, peace advocates will share their stories of alternative paths to peace through a feminist lens. Together we will go behind the usual thinking about peace and bring to the surface different analysis, stories and solutions.
- Joy Onyesoh, WILPF International President, Nigeria.
- Anthony Keedi, Abaad Psychologist, Gender specialist and Programme Manager, Lebanon.
- Christine Ahn, Founder and International Coordinator of Women Cross DMZ, US/Korea.
