HRC42 Side Event – Arbitrary Detention in Yemen from Women’s Perspective
10 September , 2019 - 12:00 pm1:00 pm
Yemen has been spiralling into a bloody conflict for the last five years. In 2018 the UN peace process managed to bring together conflict parties into agreeing on a number of confidence building measures including forming a mission to address the issue of releasing the detainees. While Yemeni women on the ground have contributed to local mediations to release more than 600 detainees, no concrete progress has materialized in releasing the detainees through the UN-led process since 2015.
In this side event, Yemeni women activists will discuss the role of Yemeni women in addressing the issue and the challenges facing the UN led process in releasing the detainees.
