This year marks the 25th anniversary of UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The International Secretariat is initiating virtual informal discussions across the WILPF community to talk with each other about the specific ways in which the changing context is influencing our approach to resolution 1325, and beyond.
WILPF’s 2020 research UNSCR 1325 at 20 Years: Perspectives of Feminist Peace Activists and Civil Society found that there are several main barriers to the implementation of the WPS agenda. These include militarism and militarization, patriarchal and political undermining of the agenda, and a lack of accountability for implementation. While much of the analysis still stands, the global context has deeply changed. The multilateral system in which we have worked for so long to advance WPS and other key areas of work has failed in many ways and is being undermined daily.
