SUMMARY:REPORT BACK FROM COP 26: Women Mobilizing for Climate Justice\, Gender Equality and Feminist Peace
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom with CODEPINKModerated by Bianca Mugyenyi\, Canadian Foreign Policy Institute \nSpeakers: Ida Arneson (Sweden)\, Roslyn Cook (WILPF UK)\, Tamara Lorincz (WILPF Canada)\, Michelle Benzing (WILPF Germany)\, Nancy Mancias (CODEPINK)\, Jodie Evans (CODEPINK) and Alexis Canari (WILPF Germany/Peru). \nRegister here: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_OTBPpdL5Tf2srMPm6zU_cw \nAs COP26 has drawn to a close in Glasgow\, many promises have been made\, from commitments to end deforestation to pledges of achieving “net zero” emissions by 2050. But what do these promises really mean? Will they be enough to mitigate the devastating effects of the ecological crisis? And how have feminist\, anti-militarist perspectives featured in this year’s much anticipated COP? Speakers who attended the climate summit in Scotland from WILPF Sections as well as from CODEPINK will assess outcomes of COP in a public webinar on Sunday\, 21 November. Join the conversation online and learn from women activists about the steps that are required for building a world based on climate justice\, gender equality and feminist peace. Let’s discuss ways we can mobilize women to put peace & equality at the centre of climate justice in advance of COP 27 in Egypt next year.

SUMMARY:Reshaping the Peace Processes in Syria
DESCRIPTION:A JOINT PANEL AT THE WPS WEEK IN NEW YORK \nSyria stands at the cusp of a transitional phase with national\, regional and international discussions taking place on the possible political transition. Started behind closed doors and within international circles\, these discussions have addressed issues related to constitutional reform\, the reconstruction of Syria\, early recovery and return of refugees\, from an exclusionary\, hegemonic and male-dominated perspective. \nThe panel will discuss the key priorities and ways in which Syrian women\, along side women organizations\, and women political leaders\, have led an array of interventions during the transitional phase after failed attempts to reach a political solution. \nPanelists will share lessons learnt from their experiences in challenging the exclusionary spaces within the different political processes on Syria\, how they transformed this lack of inclusion into victim-centered and gender-sensitive initiatives and movements\, and the recommendations they have for key Member States and UN agencies on how to support Syrian women’s initiatives during the transitional phase. \nSpeakers \n\nSalma Kahale\, Executive Director\, Dawlaty\n\n\nFadwa Mahmoud\, Founding member of Families for Freedom\n\n\nSana Mustafa\, Member of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement\n\nModerator \n\nMadleine Rees\, Secretary-General of WILPF\n\nTo see the flyer on the event in full size\, click here \n
