The 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) is just around the corner; and we are looking forward to this year’s ‘digital age’ theme to shed light on the intersection between technology, women’s rights, and feminist peace.
Within a few days, representatives of UN Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all around the world will come together for a two-week period and join forces to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.
This year’s thematic focus on “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls” is both timely and critical.
All the rapid technological advancements over the past decades have been drastically changing the way we live, work, and advocate for our rights. At most times, technology has proven to be a vital resource and powerful tool for women — especially women activists in conflict contexts. Yet, technology has also come with a hefty price, further exacerbating the threats and risks that women and feminist activists are disproportionately subject to, as well as widening gender gaps.
“Online gender-based violence is often perceived as less serious than violence that takes place in the “real world.” However, it has the same root causes, including unequal gender relations, patriarchal stereotypes, and a lack of prevention and accountability”

The CSW represents another opportunity to build solidarity and strengthen women’s participation across multiple agendas of gender equality, human rights, development, and peace.
Members, international staff, and partners will be coming from all over the world to contribute to the 67th session of the CSW and will organise and co-sponsor events throughout the whole session. Together, we will mobilise for the utmost support and respect for the rights and freedoms of women and girls, wherever they are, whatever the circumstances.
