WILPF is happy to announce its partnership with 19 Syrian organisations with feminist values within its ‘Feminist Movement for Change’ initiative. The initiative is designed to support Syrian civil society organisations to further their feminist agendas, develop sustainable and effective structures, and strengthen networks for collective growth. WILPF will provide these partners with a combination of core funding, technical support, and spaces to coordinate as well as much needed psychosocial support.
Background
Last year, WILPF undertook an in-depth needs assessment to gauge the current challenges, needs and priorities of a number of Syrian organisations working for the advancement of women’s rights. In spite of all challenges faced, the organisations have been successful in integrating gender perspectives into their work and communities. However, challenges such as insecurity, a lack of funds, the donor-led approach and chronic burnout have a significant impact on the sustainability and structure of organisations, as well as their ability to plan and implement. In particular, the results showed us that Syrian organisations are in urgent need of spaces and resources to further their feminist values, especially through flexible core funding.
Initiative Objectives
The desired outcome of the initiative is that the selected 19 partners are better equipped to make progress towards their visions. This will be achieved through granting flexible funds to provide a measure of financial stability and assist in creating conditions conducive to the planning and application of innovative feminist solutions. Partners will also be provided with tailored technical support and capacity building, with the intended effects of connecting partners with one another, as well as with donors and like-minded sister organisations.
