This year’s International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament (24 May 2015) marked a historic event as 30 international women peacemakers from 15 countries crossed the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea together with Korean women from both sides of the border to call for peace between the two countries. One of these peacemakers was WILPF’s International President Kozue Akibayashi. In this editorial, featured in the newsletter from our Women, Peace and Security programme (PeaceWomen), she shares her experience from the event and her reflections on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
