WILPF made this submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) half-day of general discussion on trafficking in women and girls in the context of global migration, which was held on 22 February 2019. The purpose of the half-day of general discussion was to prepare the elaboration by the Committee of a General Recommendation on trafficking in women and girls in the context of global migration. In addition to making a written submission, WILPF made an oral statement at that meeting.
In our contributions, we highlighted the need for the CEDAW to address the critical impact that foreign military bases and military interventions have on the trafficking of women and girls. In doing so, we drew, for example, from the analysis in WILPF’s report Remote warfare and sexual violence in Djibouti.
